Chapter Sixteen

I was glad to be taking Papa home, but at the same time, I was even more worried about him. I didn’t want to let him go, but after Jai had literally peeled me off my father, we got home, and I got him settled in bed.

“I will be alright, son,” Papa said with a weak smile. It was going to be a comment I suspected I would hear a lot from him over the next coming days. But it was a lie. He wasn’t going to be alright. He was going to die. He was going to be leaving this world.

I sighed and nodded my head, giving his hand a squeeze, I left the room and found Jai sitting on the couch.

“Oh shit, I forgot that Flynn is in my bed,” I mumbled as I flopped onto the couch beside Jai and pressed my face into his chest.

Jai circled his arm around my shoulder and held me tight. “It’s alright, I can sleep on the couch.”

I shook my head. “No, there is enough room for all of us in my bed. Will it be alright if Flynn is there? We are just friends.”

Jai chuckled and kissed the top of my head. “Of course, it will be. I’ve got the better looking of you both anyway.”

I giggled and took Jai’s hand in mine as I stood from the couch and pulled him up behind me. I still had glitter dotted on my body but was so exhausted that figured it would just have to wait until tomorrow. Flynn was curled on one side of my bed, with his leg up on cushions from the couch, when I slid in beside him, he briefly opened his eyes and gave me a small smile.

“Dill. Is Papa alright?” he mumbled.

“Yeah, he will be fine for tonight. Close your eyes and get some sleep,” I said before pressing a kiss to the side of his head.

Jai slipped into the bed behind me and pulled me into his chest. I was sandwiched between my mate and best friend. It was the comfort I needed after knowing that I was about to face something I’d hoped wouldn’t come for a very long time.
